Woolies turn to run half price promotion on sunscreen products from Cancer Council, Nivea Sun and Neutrogena. For those that missed out on this deal from Coles last week. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/885697

This must only apply to non-Metro stores.
Source: I went to my local Metro Woolies on my break today and there were no half-price sunscreens.chopper690 on 16/01/2025 - 13:53

Metro pricing is completely different.

Recommend the pink labelled sunscreen: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/699444/can…
I personally use it and it is extremely lightweight.

Surf Life Saving Spf50+ Daily Sunscreen 1litre was non greasy the last time I bought it, I returned the Woolworths one litre, way too greasy.
My favourite is the Aldi one in the 500ml tube very non greasy.

My personal favourite for the use on the body is this:
https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/644973/can…I am pretty picky about my sunscreens and this dries on quickly and doesn't feel heavy at all on the skin. Not greasy at all.
ufwpd on 16/01/2025 - 16:55
Will give this a go, thanks. Need a new body sunscreen.
Any others that you dis/liked?

Not really, once I found this one it's been my holy grail. For the face I usually use Korean sunscreens which won't be available at Woolworths.

@master131: +1 K-sunscreens for face.
q28 on 16/01/2025 - 21:20
@master131: which korean sunscreens would u recc?
master131 on 16/01/2025 - 21:26
@q28: For drier skin and for a slightly dewy finish either:
- Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun SPF 50+
- Round Lab Birch Juice Sun Cream SPF 50+ (more dewier than BOJ)I personally am using the Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Sun Serum SPF50+ for a year now as I have more oily skin and prefer a less dewy look.
You can get these from Lila Beauty or other reputable stores. W Cosmetics is a physical store option if you have one around but it will cost more.
Expect no white cast for all of these and an overall lightweight feel.
YoursTruly on 16/01/2025 - 19:03
In addition to not being greasy - Anything here that does not leave a white cast on a fair/ slight tan skin as well?

Sorry I know you specified products here but once you run out I really really have to suggest Hamilton Everyday Face SPF50+ Cream 75g!! Its currently on sale at CW for $10 but I've definitely seen it at woolies for half price ($8~)! Its truly lightweight and the finish is !!matte!! My prev go-tos were Beauty of Joseon/Roundlab which are current popular K-beauty ones, but Hamilton has actually surpassed both just bc of the finish and the price! Also Aussie made which is great. If you want a guy's perspective Labmuffin's husband does a review too. He mentions no white cast too!
Also have tried all versions of LRP Anthelios - Hamilton for the price & finish comes first easily!ufwpd on 16/01/2025 - 21:19
Went on a Reddit deep dive after seeing this deal.
This Hamilton product was mentioned over and over again, preferred over even LRP and Mecca. Planning to give it a go after I finish my supply of K-beauty sunscreens.
For body, decided to try the Banana Boat dry balance.

Ooh yea I hope you like the Hamilton!!
Yea for body sunscreen its always hard! Ngl, I normally go to CW or Priceline's website and just sort by popular, looking for economical, unscented and big tub sunscreen. I hope the Banana Boat works out!

Please only put mineral sunscreens on your kids. Chemical/organic sunscreens are hurting them.
Skatez on 16/01/2025 - 17:26

The Zinc and Titanium ones are the mineral ones that could possibly be harmful.
The chemical ones are the ones recommended to use:The only method of reliably avoiding nanoparticle-containing sunscreens would be to choose a sunscreen containing only organic ‘chemical’ filters.

I don't know where that advice is coming from. For kids especially, Mineral based sunscreens are advisable
Skatez on 17/01/2025 - 12:28
It came from Mr bombastig’s article.
wisdomtooth on 17/01/2025 - 14:37
@Skatez: I couldn't find it there. But I found this:
Chemical sunscreens might protect against UVA and UVB rays but could also generate reactive oxygen species and carcinogens upon exposure to sunlight
Skatez on 17/01/2025 - 17:33
@wisdomtooth: Can only see it in the RACGP article posted by Ibreav below. Paragraph 2 of “Implications for General Practice”.
Sorry for quoting the wrong source.

I'd be careful relying on a single secondary-source for big accusations like this, since they're often not backed by science. I highly recommend considering the opinions of experts in that specific field, and taking into account that Australia has one of the most regulated sunscreen industries in the world due to our extreme risk of skin cancers.
Lab Muffin Beauty Science has a great discussion on Huberman's skincare advice that highlights where it succeeds and where it falls short. https://youtu.be/r0xINIwcF0w

Excuse the ignorance ,but any difference in sf50 in a supermarket own brand and something that's more than double the price? What exactly are main differences please
PeterA07 on 16/01/2025 - 22:19
In terms of actual protection from the sun, price makes no difference. What matters are a high SPF, water resistance and broad spectrum protection. You can get those things at any price point.
Otherwise, some people prefer the feel of certain brands, or may look for ones that have moisturising agents or are formulated for sensitive skin (for example).
wisdomtooth on 17/01/2025 - 14:39
The chemicals you scrub on your own or your family's skin also matters.

Not sure of other health insurance providers, but with ahm extras cover you can claim $250 per person for Cancer Council branded sunscreen. Could stock up for the next couple of summers at these prices
wisdomtooth on 17/01/2025 - 14:40
Don't. They expire.
mrau on 17/01/2025 - 05:40
Limit exposure to sun or apply poison to my skin? Decisions, decisions 🤔
wisdomtooth on 17/01/2025 - 14:42
Shade and cover when the sun is too high, nothing if it isn't, and zinc on the face. That's enough.
Jacko1235 on 17/01/2025 - 08:33
Even at half price, Aldi sunscreen is significantly cheaper.
